Voice input for developers
You didn't learn to type 120 wpm to write paragraphs. Save the keyboard for code; dictate the prose around it.
Dictate with two keys
Tap Caps Lock to arm VocalCraft — the LED turns on. Click any text box, tap Spacebar once to start listening, speak naturally, tap Spacebar again. Your words paste straight into the field you clicked. That's the whole workflow.
The keyboard is for code. The rest is prose.
Developers type surprisingly little actual code — studies put it around a third of the working day or less. The rest is communication: commit messages, pull-request descriptions, README files, doc comments, incident reports, Slack threads with product, angry-but-professional replies to scope creep. That's all prose, and prose is faster spoken.
Where developers get the hours back
- Commit messages and PR descriptions. The difference between "fixed bug" and a message that actually explains the trade-off is effort. Speaking a three-sentence explanation takes ten seconds.
- Doc comments and READMEs. The documentation you keep meaning to write gets written when it costs thirty seconds instead of five minutes.
- Chat and email. Long technical answers are where typing hurts most. Dictate the answer, scan it, send.
- Code-adjacent text in any editor. VS Code, JetBrains, vim, whatever — VocalCraft pastes into whatever field has focus.
Privacy your employer will actually care about
Most cloud dictation tools route everything you say through someone else's server. For a developer, "everything you say" includes proprietary architecture, unreleased product details and customer names. VocalCraft runs Whisper entirely on your machine — no audio ever leaves it, no account, no telemetry. It is the dictation tool you can use at work without asking security for permission.
It won't write your code for you — on purpose
VocalCraft doesn't autocomplete, suggest or "assist". It does one thing: turns speech into text, instantly, privately. For the code itself, keep using the tools you trust; for everything around the code, stop typing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I dictate actual code with VocalCraft?
You can, and some people do for boilerplate-heavy snippets, but that is not its strength. Its strength is everything around code: messages, docs, comments, chat. Use the right tool for each job.
Does it work inside VS Code / JetBrains / terminals?
Yes — it works at the OS level and pastes into any focused text field in any app, including terminals, editors and browser-based tools.
Will it send my company's code or data to the cloud?
No. Processing is 100% local on your machine. There is no server component, no account, and no audio transmission of any kind.
